What are Composite Fillings?
Dr. Angela Kraus uses composite fillings rather than the old-fashioned amalgam or silver fillings that were common years ago. Composite fillings are made of a durable resin material that features natural tooth coloring. Composite fillings bond to the tooth, strengthening the tooth’s structure as opposed to amalgam fillings that require the dentist to remove healthy tooth structure to place the fillings.
What are Dental Sealants?
Dental sealants are a cost-effective method of protecting grooves in the teeth where cavities tend to begin. A thin, tooth-colored coating is applied to the biting surfaces of back teeth (molars), acting as a barrier between the tooth and foods and fluids that can cause decay. Early prevention using dental sealants saves time and money, and is considered one of the best strategies to take for a healthy mouth.
What are Bridges and Crowns?
A bridge is an artificial replacement for a lost tooth or teeth. It is important to replace lost teeth in order to prevent the remaining healthy teeth from shifting out of position and potentially causing further tooth loss.
Crowns are porcelain or metal alloy covers that strengthen and protect your teeth. The dentist places crowns over weakened or decayed teeth. Crowns are very durable and enhance the appearance of your smile.
What is TMJ Disorder?
TMJ is a much easier way to refer to a misalignment of the upper and lower jaws known medically as temporomandibular joint and muscle disorder. Since that’s a mouthful to say, most people just use the TMJ abbreviation. You may have TMJ disorder if you have jaw pain, headaches, earaches, or difficulty opening or closing your mouth. Dr. Kraus treats TMJ using splints, bite plates, or functional appliances to reposition the lower jaw.
